A WORLD DESTINATION FOR RETAIL THERAPY

Shopping in Kuala Lumpur is truly amazing. With millions of people from around the world coming here each year to indulge in some retail therapy, it is no wonder that in 2013, CNN Travel ranked it as the 4th best shopping city in the world. The judging for this award was based on four criteria, namely ease of getting around, value for money, variety and overall experience. Having scored highly in all criteria, Kuala Lumpur was the only city that was awarded full marks for “value for money”. So you know that whether you visit the city during the annual sales period or any other time of the year, you can rest assured you would be getting a wide variety of quality goods for great value prices. Duty Free prices are another good reason for shopping in KL. Among the commonly found duty free items are chocolates, alcohol, cigars, cigarettes, cosmetics, cameras and watches.

Goods Services Tax (GST) & Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS):

Most goods in Malaysia are charged with an additional 6% in GST. However, visitors to the country will be entitled for a tax refund. This is done by producing the goods and a receipt as proof to the Customs officer at the airport before departure. Visitors are encouraged to look out for outlets that bear the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) Logo and insist on an invoice when purchasing items.
